Nobody commented on which bike you're talking about, but my friend's Vulcan Classic 1500 clutch started giving trouble and all was good except the clutch spring plates. I believe he said the inner teeth had worn out. Friction linings were fine. This happens to him about every 25-30K miles. Depends on city vs. highway, for sure.

Sep 16, 2012 · I used Turco(?) T-1 blended motorcycle oil with MPZ friction reducer that's supposed to impregnate the surfaces. Another "modified" oil to not use. Clutch started slipping when I'd roll on the throttle at 4k on the tach. Just changed oil to the T-4 straight petroleum oil. I hope time and miles with the non-additive oil clears up the problem.
Dec 16, 2007 · You are supposed to soak new clutch plates in oil before you put them in, so soaking them is fine. Its always had a tiny bit of drag, but its never really been a problem. I have been using a castrol motorcycle oil that is supposed to be safe with the clutch, and hasent caused a problem in the past.

Give it a good run city/highway careful in 1st, try not to slip, go easy and see if doesn't come back or another trick I heard of was to over fill the oil to flood the clutch plates a few days then drain oil to correct level and try.

These pieces was found in the tranny oil and inside the bottom of the clutch cover. I am pretty sure there is some metal pieces in the bottom of transmission left too.
